Quality Reporting

In my post "Extremists", below, I commented on how CNN's not-so-ace reporter Susan Roesgen embedded her foot deeply in her mouth while opining (she certainly was not reporting, by any stretch of the imagination) from the Tea Party protest in Chicago.

In a move that may (hopefully) kill her career, Miss Roesgen said, live,

I think you get the general tenor of this. It’s anti-government, anti-CNN since this is highly promoted by the right-wing conservative network Fox.

Since Fox is a major news network, I'm sure they have a nice stick of lawyers on retainer who may just want to consider this grounds for suing Miss Roesgen and her network for slander. CNN, on the other hand, may want to consider assigning Miss Roesgen to duties that don't require her to make any kind of on-air statements, such as researching story leads or making coffee for the on-camera staff. Her obvious lack of professionalism wouldn't be nearly as noticeable or as embarrassing for her network, at any rate.

Speaking about lack of professionalism, Founding Bloggers happened to be on the scene just as Miss Roesgen's segment came to an end, and caught her antagonizing other protesters with her questions and attitude. I'm using the word antagonizing for two reasons - one, because that is obviously Miss Roesgen's intent, and two, because she is accusing those people attempting to answer her questions honestly of being "antagonizing" to her. If that isn't the pot calling the kettle black, I don't know what is.

You can see Miss Roesgen making an even bigger fool of herself here -

CNN seems to be rather uncomfortable with public reaction to Miss Roesgen's Tea Party segment, having shut down her email address so that people don't try to make their opinions known. Go figure.
